Favourite things

Blogging, youtube, librarything, tagging, image makers, podcasts, e-audio and some of the award sites. Not necessarily in that order!
I won't be one of those seniors who refuse to learn anything more!!!
I really enjoyed this and thought it was very worthwhile but honestly I felt I didn't have time to work on it with my extra responsiblities and the learning curve I was on already this year.
I felt like the Little engine That Could. Chuga chuga chuga chuga.
Uphill all the way!!!
What would I change? Maybe it would be easier if people worked within a block of activities. Explain?? It seems soooo much to do as a whole project but if it was divided into short blocks or sections, every time you completed a part you would feel some accomplishment.
Yes! yes! yes! I would love to learn more!!!!

award winners

Use Facebook and Picasa.
Couldn't get into Lulu or that whole line of book stuff.
Couldn't get into Acraplay; too many connections.
Looked at cocktail builder as it was the only one I could get into easily and the travel one.
Cocktail Builder: It was all right if you make cocktails. I used a site similar to that but it was a food one.

Zoho writer

I tried a bunch of stuff and pasted a picture of Will as Ali G but when I asked it to send to blog it just sat there. It may have been to big or strange!!
I must tell Will!

Web 2.0

What did you ask us to write about Web 2.0?
I started reading and reading and reading there was always another page to read. So...
On the first page it mentions that we should not be filling our libraries with material we don't use just to have it here.
I agree.
I think tagging will be great and I just can not even dream what metadata will encompass- everything! wow!
In Alberta, the first step is we need free memberships so everyone can have access to our data bases. Next we have to train people to use what is available and see what changes are happening. There is going to be a lot of old people out there soon so we have to reach that generation as the kids should be getting the training in schools. Maybe Libraries have to be ahead of schools!
What does it mean to me? Change and an exciting frontier. I am sure Star trek had a quote for it.

What does it mean to me? Access for everyone

Internet Technology

After the last Staff Development day I went into some of the
internet "stuff" mentioned. I nearly made it into "Second Life".
Made it to "Facebook" It is Ok but too time consuming. That's what I find with a lot of this stuff.

Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely created by its Residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is not inhabited by me. secondlife.com/whatis/

Podcasts

Listened to them at home. Today, I noticed that Yahoo podcasts will be closed Oct 31, 2007.

Youtube and Children's services

It would be great to put humorous material about children's books, and libraries on a blog or site

Short portions of library programs can be on the site
Storytime
Summer game
Special library entertainers
Authors

Short tours of the library can be put on the site

Feature a dewey decimal area (what do we have)

How to use library resources

and so on and so on.

Why should we do this!!!

Many, many years ago in my former job a homepage was set up for our Library. I really wondered why we needed it especially when I got the job of having to update it.
Have you ever worked with the "Hotdog"homepage program?

That was when we had to write our own html. Eventually I started to enjoy it as I became more creative.

Then we decided to upgrade our page and I had input with the designer. It was a interesting experience!

So... I learned to accept Internet changes (always loved the search engines from the beginning) and I have been traveling into netlingo land since (even tried signing into"Second life" but backed out and I belong to "Facebook" ) How cool is that?

2.0

Job wise- It keeps us in touch with what is happening currently on the Internet.
We can talk about this stuff with some knowledge.
Personally- If we continue to learn new things it stretches our minds and keeps us from being stagnet. Who wants a murky old mind?
It's also fun! We are doing something different! I even posted my beautiful peony picture, too.
Thank you for the opportunity to learn something different and new (or is old hat already).
